Today, Activision Blizzard have announced that Crash Bandicoot 4 - It’s About Time is coming to the Switch and the new consoles - Xbox Series XS and PS5, and later this year for PC.

Those who have purchased Crash Bandicoot 4 on PS4 and Xbox One will get a free upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series XS versions of the game.

Switch’s Tweaked Visual Style

Rather then trying to completely downgrade the graphics for the Nintendo Switch, the graphics style has been tweaked to be just a little more cell-shaded. Like the base PS4 and Xbox One, it will target 30 frames per second at 720p and 1080p in handheld mode and docked respectively.

I think this is a good move. The Switch port of the N. Sane Trilogy had similar changes and was well received. I think these kind of tweaks will become more common as the difference in power between the Nintendo Switch and games that target the next gen consoles from Microsoft and Sony expands.

PC Version later but on Battle.NET

Crash Bandicoot 4’s PC version is also in the works for later in the year and will release on the Battle.NET platform. Initially I was a bit disappointed with this and would rather that the game release on Steam. Battle.net is a competent launcher though and there is worse options.

Rather, I realised my actual is issue is the lack of a good unified TV launcher with which to launch the game. Should I look into Launchbox?
